We haven't called in to the George since Covid-19. We were very pleasantly pleased. The bar was warm, the staff were friendly and obliging and the food was reasonably priced, hot and came quickly. Anyone wishing for a good value meal, visit the George this month( January) and ask for the 25% discount deal before paying for your order. Go for it.

We’ve called in here at least 3 times for a drink after walking our dog. It’s now after at least the third visit that I feel compelled to write a review. I cannot say we have had a warm welcome on any visit . It’s been cordial, but not particularly friendly. Drinks have been from a machine (coffees) which have been lukewarm. Today seemed busy and popular with lots of people having lunch. It seems like a lovely hotel and bar but my experience of of ordering coffee has put me staying for a meal or even booking accommodation. Please welcome dog walkers along with other guests in a more friendly manner - it really does make a difference and does reflect on the whole hotel.

We Just had a wonderful Christmas Day dinner here. We arrived early and were able to have drinks at the bar while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Atmosphere was very relaxed and all the staff were incredible friendly, helpful and happy to be serving the public in Christmas Day. We were shown to our table where our host Charlotte, introduced herself. She was lovely and really looked after us. We had pre ordered so starters came, and there was just enough gap between servings. The dinner was fantastic, well all of it was, starters and puds too. We have tried booking here for a couple of years, but it always sells out so quick, now we know why. It was just perfect. We will definitely consider booking here again for next year. Well done to all the team, you made our Christmas day dinner lovely 🎄🍾🥂

Went to the restaurant, food was delicious. Staff were lovely, was a bit noisy but the atmosphere and decor was very cosy on a cold day and felt very comfortable. Would recommend

I’m currently staying here and the food is unbelievably hit or miss. My partner had the beef roast tonight and 90% was cold or not cooked properly. The bar manager (Darren(Daz)) was extremely rude and could learn how to use please and thank you at the very least. Also, he couldn’t care less about the guests and would prefer to chat about where he NEEDS his next holiday because he’s had enough, rather than help his team clear tables like our that was left in front of us for almost half an hour. It became apparent that the staff wanted to speak to their colleagues and the locals and anyone else was looked down on. Don’t eat here they just want your money, your food is served half cold and it’s left at that. The customer service levels are appalling and this has quite frankly ruined our holiday.

Previously our favourite restaurant. We arrived just before 11:30 on a Sunday, and ordered drinks while we waited to order food at mid-day. Food choice was poor, and her restricted diet meant that she could eat only a starter. But then my wife noticed a Brunch menu served from 11, which had better options. The woman serving noticed us browsing it and abruptly said that Brunch isn’t available on a Sunday and we would have to wait until 12 for food. We were made to feel that we were a burden and not at all welcome. A lovely location but we will not be visiting again.

I'm visiting Royal George every weekend for some time now but today was probably my last time there. I ordered full English as usual and quality of the food dropped drastically. Half of the things (beans, bacon, hash brown) were almost cold when arrived. Staff was not polite and me and my friends felt like we weren't welcome today. I noticed that the lady who was always there and looked like a manager was absent today and this makes me wonder if that's the reason of bad outcome of todays visit. Very disappointed because we enjoyed place and a food very much before.

Visited here for dinner with a group of friends staying in the area for a birthday celebration. On arrival was impressed by appearance/presentation of the George, it's ample parking & it was very near to where we were staying. Menu typical 'chain' type pub fare with a fairly good choice including some great classics which we hadn't seen in a while. Service was quite slow & the staff were not overly user friendly & in fact, at times bordering on rude. Unfortunately we had to return two mains as they were cold but were very tasty when returned - a little disconcerted that the server put her finger into the meal to check it's temperature 🫤 My curry was tasty but had obviously been kept under 'heat lamps' for a while & the additional 'topper' of butternut squash (which was initially forgotten) was literally a finger sized wedge 🤔 Overall I would say this venue was a little more style over substance & needs to work on its customer service & would not be in any hurry to return or recommend. Some of our group had lunch here the previous day & thoroughly enjoyed so maybe consistency of service is the problem 🤔

Lovely Pub we visited on the way back from a day trip out. Menu is great, Award winning Beef & Ale Pie was amazing and filling! Reasonably priced and lovely atmosphere. Busy for a Wednesday lunchtime but i can see why judging by how great our visit was. Will definitely be back!

Lovely clean chilled venue, great staff plenty of tables in the restaurant and food served at the bar ample parking and everywhere is wheelchair accessible. A radar key is needed to access the disabled toilets but I’m sure one will be available at the bar…. Food was very tasty and well presented although on the top side of price for the portion size but still well worth it as it was very tasty 🤤
